The MIHS Collections Committee will review all potential donations to determine if items will be accepted into the collection based on several factors: the historical or cultural importance of the item to Marco Island, its size and physical condition, whether the MIHS already has a similar piece, the item’s history of ownership and use, and storage needs.
we collect a wide variety of materials
These items include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Historical objects
- Textiles
- Fine art, graphics and illustrations
- Archaeological objects
- Photographs
- Postcards
- Manuscripts
- Books, publications, pamphlets, brochures
- Maps and architectural drawings
- Video and audio recordings
- Personal and professional correspondence
- Family papers
- Genealogical records and biographical information
- Business and organizational records
we do not collect
- Items unassociated with the Marco Island area
- Duplicates of materials already represented in the MIHS collections
- Items in poor condition
- Items too large to be stored/cared for by MIHS staff
- Undocumented archaeological material with no provenience
- Newspapers and clippings
