Folktales from Florida’s Backyards Image
Carrie Sue Ayvar

Storyteller Carrie Sue Ayvar highlights diverse Florida folk and their stories, showcasing the state’s rich heritage through its folklore.

Folktales, passed down from generation to generation, convey and preserve the cultural knowledge, beliefs, values, and customs of the cultures that they come from, like windows into each community. This presentation showcases how folk tales and folklore can tell a great deal about the values and views of a culture and serve as a means to understand one another. “Meet” some diverse Florida folk and their communities who make up the state through their folktales.

Presented by the Marco Island Historical Society in partnership with the Florida Humanities.
