What began as Spain’s unstoppable naval power ended as one of history’s greatest myths—the story of the Spanish Armada….
It was a fearsome sight to behold when hundreds of stately Spanish ships coursed their way up the coast of Europe towards England in 1588. The two countries had been on a collision course for decades, and now they were headed for a showdown, and the outcome would shape the world. Spanish wealth and power, as everyone knew (or thought they knew) was unlimited; her Armada would be invincible. England, in contrast, was a small island nation. To everyone’s surprise, the English survived, and the myths that began around that event continue to this day. This presentation examines both the fact and the fiction of this momentous event in naval history.
